The towns' people and authorities in the area, think they were all murdered. An evil old man named Zeke, a distant relative and the main suspect conveniently inherits the estate. The mystery remains unsolved for over thirty years by the US Sheriffs Department. Then, a man, named James Taylor, puts an ad in the New England newspaper looking for a job as a local farm hand. But while driving up the old mountain road to the Zeiglers' mansion for an interview, he encounters helpless faces of ghosts; lost souls twisting in the wind, mysteriously beckoning him to come up the mountain. Several other ghostly occurrences happen, that can't be explained.The Ghost in the Sugar House book is based on a Vermont Sugar House. The characters Hillbilly Bear, Tommy, Mrs. Who Owl, Old Indian Owl, Grandpa and Grandma were created from the personalities of real people.
