Drawings of all but a very few of the tree species supplement the text. Wherever possible, the drawings picture a leaf, seed, branch, fruit, or flower drawn to actual size. This is an unabridged replication of the 1st (1908) edition. The foreword to this Dover edition is by Woodbridge Metcalf, Extension Forester, Emeritus, the University of California, Berkeley. It includes 2 maps, 207 figures, 6 photographs that are new to this edition. A new table of changes in nomenclature is included by E. S. Harrar, Dean of the School of Forestry, Duke University. There is an index of common and scientific names.
