LESSON OVERVIEW Home health aides can often provide simple wound care to patients. They can be especially useful in cases in which the wound care does not require the skills of a nurse, but no caregiver is available to do it. While the duties of unlicensed staff may vary from one state to another, almost all states allow properly trained aides to perform certain wound care procedures and dressing changes. The purpose of this in-service is to provide basic information all home health aides should know before performing wound care. Once the aide has mastered this education, he or she will require minimal patient-specific information prior to providing proper wound care.
